2013 Rose Bowl & Tournament of Roses Parade

We have reached the 7th week of the 2012 college football season and its time to start thinking about bowl season!  The Tournament of Roses Parade is getting ready for the 2013 celebration this week by naming the seven court members of the parade.  These seven lovely young ladies were chosen from a list of 33 finalists and over 900 total applicants.  The Queen of the Court will be announced on October 16th.  The battle for the Parade Court is just another testament to the prestige of this event.

In less than 3 months we will all get the privilege to see the 99th annual Rose Bowl game, no application required.  This magical event is set to return to New Year's Day in 2013.  Parade and all, the Tournament of Roses has been a special part of college football and our nation's New Year celebration for over a century.  It is no surprise that this is the most attended bowl game since 1945.  The distinction "Granddaddy of them all" holds true for this everlasting sporting event and celebration.

Rose Bowl Fun Facts

Stanford was getting beat so bad in the first Rose Bowl game that they quit in the 3rd quarter.  The score was 49-0 and the opponent was Michigan.

The most featured match-up in Rose Bowl history is USC vs. Michigan.  These two college football titans have battled on 8 different occasions in the Rose Bowl.  Although Michigan is the all-time leader in FBS wins, the Trojans have the advantage in Rose Bowl games 6-2.  These two teams are also 1 and 2 in Rose Bowl Appearances.

After dominating the 90's, the Big 10 has struggled to get wins.  Since Wisconsin won the 2000 Rose Bowl, the mid-west conference has only managed 1 win.  That win came in 2010 with an Ohio State victory over the Oregon Ducks.

The longest play in Rose Bowl history happened all the way back in 1947.  It was 103 yard kick return from Al Hoisch of the University of Illinois.

Three records were set in last year's Rose Bowl Game.  Longest run (D'Anthony Thomas - 91 yards), most combined points in a half (Oregon, Wisconsin - 56), most combined points in a game (Oregon, Wisconsin - 83).  Oregon won 45-38 in a barn burner of a game.

The Rose Bowl game was added to Tournament of Roses in 1902 to help fund the Rose Parade.
